Glockenspiel

Central Taranaki

Stratford's revered glockenspiel stands proud in the main street, Broadway, and is unique to New Zealand. Shakespeare's most famous star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, emerge for the balcony scene, reaffirming their vows of love, four times a day.

Percy Thompson Gallery

Central Taranaki

The Percy Thomson Gallery is Stratford's public art gallery and was opened in June 2002. The gallery contains both exhibition areas and work areas for use by local artists and community art groups. The gallery provides an active programme of exhibitions and events that is both internally generated and toured from other art collections. New exhibitions are started every three to four weeks. Exhibitions vary between national, local and regional artists - established and emerging.

Puke Ariki is a combined museum and library at New Plymouth, New Zealand. It also includes a visitor information centre and cafe. It is the world's first purpose-built, fully integrated museum, library and visitor information centre.

Colonel Malone Statue

Central Taranaki

A statue of New Zealand war hero Lieutenant Colonel William George Malone stands tall on Broadway South. The statue of the dapper soldier, facing Mt Taranaki, topped in his signature lemon squeezer hat, serves as a reminder of his great leadership and the sacrifices he made for his country. Initiated by the Malone Quest Committee, the bronze statue of Lt Colonel Malone was unveiled on 20 November 2011.

Tawhiti Museum

South Taranaki

Tawhiti Museum is a truly unique enterprise. The creation of artist Nigel Ogle, its attention to detail is simply stunning. Widely acclaimed as the best private museum in the country, the museum uses life size exhibits and scale models to present our heritage in a series of super realistic and engaging displays. All these displays are designed and built on the premises in the 'Body Shop' and accompanying studios, which can be viewed as part of a museum visit.
